TA&D Project of the Month: Center to Mobilize Early Childhood Knowledge

The goal of the Center to Mobilize Early Childhood Knowledge CONNECT Project is to create web-based professional development resources that will help early childhood practitioners serve young children with disabilities more effectively. The modules are interactive and contain materials in a variety of formats including print, audio, and video. The content of the modules is focused both on young children with disabilities and decision-making skills.

Bookshare Partner Program

Bookshare is an online library of digital textbooks, books, and periodicals available for free for qualified students with print disabilities. Thanks to all of you who participated in February’s webinar about this OSEP-funded project. Even if you were not able to attend, Bookshare has many ways you can be involved:

Read Across America Day

March 2 was Read Across America Day, an annual event occurring around the date of Dr. Seuss’s birth. Continue the celebration by downloading materials developed by the National Education Association (NEA) and Reading Rockets have developed resources to help schools and families celebrate, including e-cards, bookmarks, and a calendar.

Opening Doors Conference Materials

Presentations from the “Opening Doors: A State of Science Conference” held last November are now available online. The two-day conference focused on the application of research to practice in three areas: transition to adulthood, access to community recreation, and screening and early identification. PACER Center staff collaborated with the Institute for Community Inclusion, Children’s Hospital Boston, and University of Massachusetts Boston to plan the event.

CSEFEL Parent Training Modules

The Center on the Social Emotional Foundations for Early Learning recently created training modules for parents with children with challenging behaviors. The modules were developed to assist parents in promoting their children’s social-emotional skills using positive approaches to help children learn appropriate behavior. Materials include a facilitator’s guide, PowerPoint, training script, activities, and videos.

CHARGE Syndrome is a rare and complex pattern of birth defects resulting in extensive medical, physical, and educational challenges. The CHARGE Syndrome Foundation recently released a professional packet of information for teachers, related service providers, and others who work with children.

Proyecto Visión (Project Vision) is a bilingual Web site for Latino individuals with disabilities. The site includes information for students and adults with disabilities, including job and scholarship opportunities, government resources, and a calendar of relevant events.

New RTI Case Study Units

The IRIS Center for Faculty Enhancement has published two new related case study guides on Response to Intervention (RTI).

RTI: Progress Monitoring allows students to practice using progress monitoring concepts within the RTI approach.

RTI: Data-Based Decision Making covers a variety of data topics, including determining level and rate of growth, making tier placement decisions, and communicating with parents.

Creating Flash Videos

TechSoup recently hosted a webinar on how nonprofit organizations can use a Flash video or slideshow to tell their story. The archived recording includes interviews with staff from a nonprofit who recently won an award for their web video and describes the process they used to develop the piece.
