North Dakota Parent Involvement Conference
Pathfinder Parent Center, the North Dakota Parent Training and Information Center (PTI) and Parental Information and Resource Center (PIRC), is holding their 2009 conference April 16-17 at the Doublewood Inn in Bismarck, ND. The theme of the parent involvement conference is Building a Brighter Future and speakers will present on a variety of topics including serving Native American families, mediation, mental health, and a variety of age- and disability-specific issues.

South Carolina LIFE Program
South Carolina PTI PRO-PARENTS has been involved in a new higher education program that helps promote a smooth transition between high school and a four-year college for students with disabilities. The College Transition Connection (CTC) LIFE (Learning Is For Everyone) programs support students with intellectual disabilities in the areas of academic enrichment, socialization, independent living skills, and competitive or supported employment. The programs are a result of a partnership with CTC and the National Down Syndrome Society. PRO-PARENTS has participated on the CDC/NDSS task force for this project and has assisted in a variety of ways to promote the program. The LIFE Program will start at its third South Carolina college in the fall, Coastal Carolina University, and is already being implemented at Clemson University and The University of South Carolina. TA&D Project of the Month: CADRE
CADRE, the National Center on Dispute Resolution, works to assist educational systems and families resolve special education disputes and decrease the use of more expensive adversarial processes. Recent products include a joint publication with Project Forum summarizing state supports for resolution meetings and a video on critical listening skills.

28th Annual Report to Congress on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) has released its 28th Annual Report to Congress on the Implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This report provides an overview of national activities to improve the education of children with disabilities funded in fiscal year (FY) 2006 under IDEA Parts B and C (P.L. 108-446). An additional report on Part D is also available.

Webinar on Social-Emotional Outcomes for Young
The Technical Assistance Center on Social Emotional Intervention for Young Children (TACSEI) announces a webinar entitled Social-Emotional Outcomes for Young Children With, or at Risk For, Delays or Disabilities, presented by Karen Blase, Barbara Smith and Roxane Kaufman. The webinar will be held on Thursday, Jan 29, 2009 at 1:00 PM EST and is the first of two related webinars focused on successfully implementing the Pyramid Model or any evidence-based initiative at the state and program level and sustaining the initiative over time in the context of staff turnover and changing organizational, social, and political environments. The second webinar will be held on May 21, 2009 and will discuss structures, procedures and financing for sustainability.

Addressing Challenging Behaviors Conference
The Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning is hosting the 6th Annual National Training Institute on Effective Practices Supporting Young Children’s Social/Emotional Development March 22-25 in Clearwater Beach, FL. The Institute will feature practical strategies for promoting positive social emotional development.

Letters from the White House Creative Writing Contest
Reading Rockets, along with AdLit.org and the National Children’s Book and Literacy Alliance is sponsoring a national creative writing contest for children from PreK to 12th grade. Students can submit letters or journal entries about an imagined or historical experience of living and working in the White House. Submissions are due February 16, 2009.
