Elda Najera-Suisala Receives National Phoenix Award
Elda Najera-Suisala, director of the CPRC in American Samoa, will receive the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Phoenix Award for Outstanding Contributions to Disaster Recovery by a Volunteer along with her friend Lori Sword, a radio announcer. Elda and Lori teamed up after the September tsunami to assist residents by connecting families, collecting and distributing donations of emergency supplies, and reaching out to find people displaced in remote areas of the island. Elda will receive the award May 24th in Washington, DC as part of National Small Business Week. More>>>
Parent Centers Presenting in Exiting Community of Practice Webinar
Karen Harrison of Tennessee’s Support and Training for Exception Parents (TN-STEP) and Cathy Healy of Virginia’s Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center (PEATC) will be presenting a webinar on Transition Planning Resources from Parent Centers, sponsored by the Exiting Community of Practice. The webinar will take place May 25th from 3-4:30 EDT. Registration is free. More>>>

CADRE – the Center for Appropriate Dispute Resolution in Special Education – encourages the use of mediation and other collaborative strategies to resolve disagreements about special education and early intervention programs. The project is directed by Marshall Peter. More>>>
PTI/CPRC FY 2010 Applications Due June 17
The FY 2010 Parent Training and Information Center (PTI) and Community Parent Resource Center (CPRC) application package was released on May 5th with proposals due June 17th. More>>>
2010 Mega Conference Registration
The 2010 Mega Conference will take place August 2-5, 2010 and will include a Parent Strand for PTIs & CPRCs and a combined “Mega Day” with state directors of special education, early childhood professionals, and other TA&D projects. Registration is due July 9. More>>>
2010 Tech in the Works Awards
The National Center for Technology Innovation (NCTI) sponsors the annual Tech in the Works competition to award funds for innovative research on the use of assistive technology for students with disabilities. This year’s winners will be studying communication software for elementary students with autism to use on the Apple iPad; a newly developed voice output communication device; and the comprehension of interactive storybooks for kindergartners who are deaf.
